For those that are doing this challenge from the get-go, today is the candiest day of the year....it's Halloween! If you have kids and they dress up to go out, WARNING: you will encounter sugar today! Maybe you've cleared your zone to keep it out of sight, smell, and mind and that's helped to keep you on track so far. However, today I'm telling you, you will see candy in your path!
So, make a plan for that.....decide right here and now how you're going to handle it. We stay on track when we're planned out and prepared. It's when we get impulsive or mindless in our eating that our plan goes awry. So you know it's coming, just set your mind up for it. How will you handle it?
But before you do, let's take a little trip down memory lane. Remember when you were a kid and you'd bring your bucket home from your night around the neighborhood, dump it all out on the floor, and sift through to find your favorites? Then you'd dig in to a few pieces, or more, until finally you got your fix and it was time to brush your teeth and hit the sack. After a few days of that pile being around the home, it never tasted as good as that first piece and most times your parents would end up throwing away the neglected suckers, open packages, and leftovers.
What happened is that that first prized piece was the best tasting one. The second, third and more pieces started to lose their umph and then your body wasn't feeling so good....the sugar high was leading into the let down!
So you have a choice here. Will you eat some or not? Is it worth it? For me, I'm planning not to because it's my nature to be more proud of the no-sugar streak than to weigh out the value of one or two pieces of a short term high. Also, I know this candy can be found at any store at anytime and truly I'm not missing out on anything....If I want some, I'll just go get it after the challenge! BUT, I say, if it's all you can think about and you feel you're missing out, then set your boundaries NOW for what you will eat then. Is it one piece or two? This is balance, my fit friends. It's making a plan and sticking to it and that's how you maintain a wellness lifestyle for the long haul.....with a plan!
I'd wager to say that if you do choose to have some, it's likely going to be a lot sweeter than it has been in the past because your taste buds have changed and the sugar will hit you sooner than later. The call is yours. It's your journey, your plan, and YOU you have to face the next day. So ask yourself, is it worth it?!
To a very mindful and planned out evening.......Trick or Treat?!
