I admit, I weigh myself daily. Some professionals advise against it, but for me it's my accountability to see the results of my hard work and the effects of my diet regimen for that day. I also know my body so well I can tell you what my cycle is doing and how it's impacting my performance as a whole. I'm ok with it and it's just what I do. Some people can handle it and some can't. I know my boundaries and it works for me. You have to make that call for yourself.
On a similar note, as part of my goals and training plan, I had someone else test my body fat recently so we could have a baseline. I had tested mine on my own before and was happy with what "I thought" it was. The results of my most recent body fat testing were waaaay different than what I thought it was. All of a sudden the work I had put into the last 2.5 years seemed to flash before my eyes. Was I on the wrong path or aiming too high with my goals and training? How could this be?
After a meltdown to my husband and some time decompressing in the evening while perusing my fitness magazines, it hit me. A number is just a number. It does not define my hard work. It does not define me as a person. It's just a measure taken at that given time and is a number generator for that day. Accurate or not, I had to let it go. I was not going to be derailed from my goals or throw in the towel on my progress. A number is just a number, period.
Do you get hung up on a number? Maybe it's your age that's holding you back. Remember, you're only as old as you feel and it's NEVER too late to get started on a new you. Maybe it's your pants size. So what you're not the same size as the girl in the magazine. You are created to be you! Maybe it's your weight or your body fat percentage. It might not be your ideal, but you know if you're giving it your all and working on it, right? A number is just a number.
So daily weigh ins or not, body fat percentages, birthdays, or even the amount of weight you can curl or how fast you can run, it's just numbers. You just keep giving your all, stay consistent, and push on towards your goals and the numbers will fall into place. Yes it's important to stay informed and keep track, but those numbers are just not that important. YOU are! A number is just a number!
