On the tails of last week's topic of "Is it time to declutter?", I got this message from one of our Fit Gals and I wanted to share it with you. She gave permission for me to use it and I hope you can get something out of her life changing experience...I did!
Dear Mindy-
Just wanted to let you know in one week I will have completed the "Year of Me" (this is what I lovingly refer to it). I decided let go of all the "clutter" in my life, which was all the extra volunteer obligations that I had been guilted into.....as I couldn't say no. It was making me unhappy and putting my family and me in last place. So, I declared the Year of Me! I reinvested all my time into my kids and me. I have never been happier, my husband is happy, and the kids are happy. Plus I have learned to say yes to the committees and volunteer opportunities that truly make me happy and fulfill me.

I wrote her back instantly and said, "I love, love, love this!" One of my mottos that has kept me on target during my journey is, "Take care of you so you can take care of others." It's natural for us to give and give to other people, sign up for this and that, and over commit. Then what happens? Who takes the brunt of it? YOU and your HEALTH do! Then are you able to meet the needs of people and live the life you've been called to live? No! Because you're busy being on repair! It's time to be proactive!
So how do you start a day, month, or "Year of Me" you ask? Just put your agenda in the filter. Look at what takes your time and evaluate if it is moving you towards or away from your goals. If not, changes lie ahead. (You have goals, right?!) When you learn to set up the minutes of your day based off of your goals, then you get to what really matters in your life and you start to live a life that really matters rather than one that is just go with the flow and full of mediocrity. It's time to take charge of your daily 24!
So, is this the "Year of Me" for you? This could be a turning point for years to come. Don't wait for the calendar to change years-why not start it now? You've got a big life to live and trying to get to everything is keeping you from getting to what you really should! Only you can determine your goals and priorities, but putting yourself on the list is a must if you want to effectively meet the needs of other people and live the life that's been planned for you! That my friends is why I commonly say, "Live Big"! It means live in purpose to live out your why in life. You're worth it and someone needs you!
A huge THANKS to our Fit Gal in Ohio for sharing her experience! We need to hear what's working for other people and it's a beautiful way to inspire effective change in those around us and maybe to those we'll never meet. Hats off to the new you, Fit Friends!
