DAY SIX: "Shake the Sugar" 21-Day Challenge

TO DO:
This is one of those days where there’s nothing new to do but to just keep “practicing” journaling and reducing/cutting out your sugar.  I say that because it takes time, day in and day out, to keep the focus.  If you want to improve your health and fitness, you have to realize that it’s a daily choice to stay the course.  It takes diligent, conscious effort to track what you eat, seek out better food choices, prep ahead of time, and ask away as you order your food while dining out.  BUT, it’s worth the investment, trust me!

As I work ahead of you for me now on Day 13, I will tell you it’s gotten easier.  I’m not craving sugar, I’m over half way there, and at this point, I’m not sneaking a bite or sip and blowing all of my progress.

I was out with friends on Fall Break at a bar eating my chips and salsa (a planned cheat snack!) and gorgeous water (I would have done decaf tea or coffee, but they didn’t have any!).  The Halloween themed drinks on the menu seemed amusing, but when I stopped to think about what I was really putting into my body and how it would make me feel the next day, I had no interest.  I don’t like to think of how a food makes me feel for that quick 2-minute high.  I like to think of how it makes my body feel and perform the next day when I’m trying to digest it.  Usually, not worth the indulgence!  Great thought…are you eating for that fleeting feeling a food gives you?  You might be and you don't even know it!

If you are having trouble with this, just realize that it’s ok.  You can’t undo in six days what you’ve been doing for years.  BUT, you can start to.  I’ll say it again.  This new lifestyle takes practice and it's something you never reach and complete with a finish line, but rather a balanced life with an ongoing rhythm.  If your goals are set, you can see them, then you know what you have to do to get there.  Take it one day at a time and keep your head up!  Just.keep.going!
