Wanting change? Then it's time for change!
-Mindy Irish
I read a post recently about a gal who had visions of looking entirely different than she did now. She was unhappy with her physique and knew she was capable of making improvements. However, she went on to report how much she loves the junk food she chooses to eat on a regular basis. "I want to change, but I don't change what I'm doing to get there," she wrote.
Some of my favorite lines are:
"We are what we repeatedly do"-Pastor Paula White
"Your body is an adaptation to your lifestyle" -Dr. Phil
"You can't keep doing the same thing and expecting different results" -YMCA instructor
"Keep doing what you're doing and get what you've got" -Not sure who said that..but I like it!
Anytime I hit a plateau or a stall in my progress, I have to take a hard look at my habits.
-What am I eating on a daily basis and am I tracking everything?
-Am I getting enough rest days, sleep at night, and drinking enough water?
-What foods have I let back in on the "OK" list, but really aren't OK? (AKA, Am I being honest with myself?)
-Am I lifting weights often or am I doing too much of the same cardio routine that my body has figured it out or maybe just too much cardio in general?
If I answer yes to any of those questions, I know I have to make changes....not just think and talk about it, but actually do it.
Most of us know what to do, but sometimes we just don't want to do it (but we still want to look and feel differently). To that I say a few things: Either be happy with your current results or be willing to keep making healthy changes. If anyone desires to be a certain shape, look, and size, but doesn't want to put the time, consistency, and effort into getting AND staying there, then something's out of alignment. In order for changes to stick around for the long haul, you have to be willing to make a lifestyle shift and BE OK with that. You could be your "ideal size", but be miserable with what it takes to get and stay there. Or, you could totally enjoy your lifestyle, but be always in angst with the results it produces. Time for change!
You have to make a choice either way. A lifestyle you love+a physique that you love=balance. There is no one-size-fits-all. It's an independent equation that only you can solve. May you find it one way or another. Either love the skin you're in or be willing to make some changes!
