When I first started my journey in 2009, I soon realized that there were MANY sources that could get my attention. With the Internet, TV, books, weight loss meetings, trainers, classroom instructors, and featured nutritionals and products, the fitness advice was coming at me from all directions. At one point I was trying to take it ALL in and make sense of it. It was kind of like having four fire places in one room. I had no focal point and my eye did not know where to land!
I was making progress, but I was getting confused, too. Do I lift this much or that much? Do I eat this food or that one? How long do I workout and when?
The problem:
I was trying to make sense of all the info that came my way and pay attention to everything. The more I knew, the better, correct?
The solution:
I woke up one morning and decided I had to choose my advice wisely, not the advice I was giving, the advice I was receiving! I turned my filters up to high and decided who I was going to let get to me, in a good way. All others were either turned off or just dismissed on my part, respectfully of course!
The problem with trying to listen to every one's fitness advice is that we get no where because our focus doesn't hold to any one person or program. Paying attention to everything will simply get you making progress at 50% (or less) and nothing at 110%. I'm pretty sure you have not set out to work this hard and only get half or none of the results you desire!
What it all boils down to is to focus on the program or advice that is WORKING for you! If your body is responding and you're making progress, then don't mess up a good thing! Set your goals and know your why. Weigh your options. Do your homework. Talk to friends and see what works for them, try it on you, and then move forward. Reserve the right to make changes in your plan, but stick to your plan in the long run....no matter who's talking to you! The beauty of this is that you have only ONE body to work on and only ONE person to answer to....that's YOU!
